Why Choose Sparrow Hospital?

Sparrow Hospital

  • Sparrow Hospital is a 700-bed acute care center that offers state of the art technology and recent facility renovations.
  • Sparrow Hospital recently earned recognition by the American Osteopathic Association's (AOA) Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) and is one of a handful of Michigan hospitals that have received both JCAHO and AOA accreditation. Accreditation by HFAP demonstrates that a healthcare facility has met the standards set forth by that organization to provide high quality care and compliance with governmental regulations.

  • Sparrow has formed Neurological Centers of Excellence including Brain Tumor Center, Neuro Diagnostic Center, Spine Center, Stroke Center, and Trauma Center. Each center is comprised of interlocking specialists that have one goal in mind, to provide a complete continuum of care for patients with neurological disorders.
  • Sparrow's Trauma Center has been verified as a Level 1 Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons, one of only seven centers in the state to receive the highest recognition.

Big 10 University Connection

  • The Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSU-CHM) Department of Family Medicine faculty is active in the Sparrow Family Medicine Residency. Not only does the faculty often serve as supervising physicians, they are tasked with supporting and encouraging residents’ research efforts.
  • MSU’s College of Human Medicine enrolls over 150 medical students each year. Residents are critical contributors to the medical student curriculum, and the extensive student-resident interactions sharpen residents’ clinical and didactic skills.
  • We are a member of the Statewide Campus System, an affiliate of the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSU-COM). MSU-COM receives more funding from the National Institutes of Health than any other Osteopathic College.
  • Residents have full access to MSU libraries, including powerful electronic search engines and extensive electronic full-text collections of journals and textbooks.
  • Residents are expected to complete a clinical research project during the three years in the program. The program is committed to supporting resident-led research and will connect residents with faculty members across MSU with similar research interests.
